The Lutheran Home at Kane is following all CDC guidelines to keep residents safe during the
COVID-19 pandemic. We understand you may have many concerns and questions regarding
COVID-19 and your loved ones. The safety of our residents and staff is our number one priority.

12/28/2021 - Positive COVID-19 Employee Result
An additional employee has tested positive for COVID-19 during their weekly testing. This employee was sent home immediately. The positive employee result has been reported to the Department of Health. Residents and staff continue to be closely monitored for signs and symptoms and will be tested as necessary.
Our residents enjoyed time with their families and loved ones this past week for Christmas and are looking forward to ringing in the New Year later this week.
12/21/2021 - New Admission and Employee Test Positive
A new admission has tested positive for COVID-19 upon entering the facility. This new resident was immediately moved to our red zone. In addition, an employee has tested positive. This employee was tested when entering the facility for their shift and was immediately sent home.
These positive results have been reported to the Department of Health. Our staff continues to follow all CDC guidelines and we are working hard to keep our residents safe.

12/20/2021 - LHK Residents Prepare for Christmas
As we all prepare to enjoy Christmas this week, our residents have remained COVID free. With the holiday excitement in the air, residents continue to enjoy time with their loved ones including the Annual Christmas Dinner held last week.

12/09/2021 - LHK Residents Remain COVID Free
We are very happy to report our residents have remained COVID free this week. All wings continue to be open for visitation and we are looking forward to our Christmas Dinner scheduled to be held this coming Thursday evening.
All residents and staff continue to be closely monitored for any signs and symptoms and will be tested as needed.

12/01/2021 - LHK Residents Test Negative
As of this morning, all Lutheran Home residents were tested for COVID-19 and all residents are negative for the second consecutive week. Due to these negative results, all wings are now open for visitation again. This includes the 300 Wing. Residents will continue to be closely monitored for any signs and symptoms and will be tested as needed.
We’d like to thank you for your continued support. Our staff continues to follow all regulations in order to keep your loved ones safe.
11/24/2021 - RCC Resident Tests Positive for COVID-19
As of yesterday afternoon, Tuesday November 23rd, one resident at RCC has now tested positive for COVID-19. This positive result has been reported to the Department of Human Services and we are following all CDC guidelines.
We continue to follow testing guidelines and all additional residents will be tested on Monday, November 29th. Residents are being closely monitored for signs and symptoms and will be tested as needed. At this time, there are no changes in visitation.
The safety of our residents and staff continues to be our number one priority. Thank you for your support. We will continue to keep you updated.
11/19/2021 - Two Residents and One Staff Test Positive
As of this morning, Friday, November 19th, two additional residents and one employee have tested positive for COVID-19. These positive results have been reported to the Department of Health.
The 300 Wing has now been made a yellow zone. All additional residents on this wing have been tested this morning and are negative. Residents are being closely monitored for signs and symptoms and will be tested as needed. At this time, for the safety of our residents and visitors, all visits for residents on the 300 Wing on are on hold. Again, all visits for our 300 Wing residents are temporarily on hold.

11/18/2021 - LHK Resident Tests Positive for COVID-19
A resident who was transferred to the hospital and tested for COVID-19 while at the hospital, has tested positive. This positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines. All residents and staff will be tested and monitored according to regulations.
Resident visits are continuing with safeguards in place.

A Residential Care Center employee has tested positive this week for COVID-19. Contract tracing has been completed as well as testing of RCC residents and at this time, all other results are negative.

Dear LHK Family Representatives:
COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the region. I wanted to ensure you had the most current information regarding protocols we have in place at The Lutheran Home. We continue to follow all regulations and guidelines set forth by the PA Department of Health and CMS.
We have not had any residents test positive for COVID-19 since January 2021. We continue to screen residents and employees twice daily. All new admissions who are unvaccinated are placed in the isolation area for 14 days. We test our vaccinated employees 1/week and our unvaccinated employees 2x/week.
We are offering residents and employees the booster vaccine this week! More than 80% of our employees are vaccinated and more than 95% of our residents.
Indoor visits are taking place in the resident rooms for all vaccinated residents. All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, must check in at the front entrance, take your temperature and answer the screening questions. Masks must be worn the entire duration of the visit. Please pull the privacy curtain between the residents as soon as you enter the room, resident safety is our number one priority. We ask you to limit it to 2 visitors per resident. Please do not use the resident’s restroom, we have public restrooms located near the main entrance.
For visits with unvaccinated residents, please call the Activities department at 814-688-0659 to schedule your visit. For special occasions and large group visits, please contact Activities at the number listed above to reserve our conference room.
For resident safety, our front doors are locked between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.

10/07/2021 - Visits Permitted for All Residents
As of this October 7th, one additional Lutheran Home employee has tested positive for COVID-19. The positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and as always, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
All residents were tested yesterday, Wednesday, October 6th, and all residents are negative. Residents and staff will continue to be tested weekly for the next two weeks or until results are 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. Any residents or staff showing signs or symptoms will be tested immediately. Due to the negative testing results, all residents are now able to have visits.
Visits with vaccinated residents may now take place in the resident’s room. Visitors must enter the front main entrance, complete the screening questionnaire, take their temperature and perform hand hygiene with hand sanitizer provided. This must be done each and every visit. If you have a fever or any signs of COVID-19, please stay home. Masks must be worn at ALL times during the visit and the curtain in the resident's room must be pulled for the entire visit.

10/05/2021 - Two Additional Employees Test Positive
Two additional employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Residents and staff will continue to be tested weekly for the next two weeks or until results are 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. Any resident or staff showing signs or symptoms will be tested immediately. The positive results have been reported to the Department of Health and as always, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
Contact tracing of these employees has been reviewed and at this time we will be pausing visits for the
300 Wing residents only. All other residents may have visits.

10/01/2021 - Employee Tests Positive
On Thursday, September 30th, one employee tested positive for COVID-19. Due to this positive result, all residents and all staff will be tested weekly for the next two weeks or until results are 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. The positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and as always, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
All residents were tested first thing this morning and all residents are negative.
Contract tracing was completed this morning. At this time, we are open with minimal visitation.

Residential Care Center (RCC) residents have had no exposure to the positive employee. Therefore, visitation will resume for RCC residents beginning Saturday, October 2nd, 2021. Visits will once again be held outside for RCC residents. In the event of inclement weather, indoor visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance by calling 814-837-8770.

09/29/2021 - Negative COVID-19 Results Continue
We have continued to monitor flu symptoms throughout the facility and have had no new cases. In addition, all COVID-19 results this week have continued to be negative.
We are happy to announce, effective immediately, visits can resume for all residents on both the 200 Wing and 300 Wing. As long as no further flu symptoms arise, residents on the 400 Wing, the Horizon Unit, and RCC will be able to resume visits on Monday, October 4th. If you do not know if your resident is able to have visits, please call the Activities Department at 814-688-0659.
Please remember, all visitors are required to follow the check in procedure identified in the lobby. Masks will be required at all times during visits whether taking place indoors or outdoors. All visits will be limited to two visitors at a time.
Outdoor visits will be available for vaccinated residents. In the case of inclement weather, indoor accommodations will be made. Visitors can report to the resident’s room to pick up their loved one and must stop at the nurse’s station to sign out the resident.
All visits with unvaccinated residents must continue to take place indoors in a designated area. To schedule a visit with an unvaccinated resident, please call 814-688-0659.

09/21/2021 - LHK Remains COVID Free as Flu Season Arrives Early
As the McKean County Positivity Rate continues to increase, weekly COVID testing at LHK has continued to produce negative results. However, due to the increase of flu and flu like symptoms currently being seen at our facility, we are required by the Department of Health to immediately put precautions into place. These precautions include halting all visits at this time.
We understand the disappointment of this change and we are committed to working to have this restriction lifted as soon as possible. We will update you immediately of any changes.

09/14/2021 - Negative Testing Allows Visitation Changes
We are very happy to announce results from our resident and staff COVID-19 testing has been 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. The McKean County Positivity rate has increased once again and is up to 15% so we will continue testing our staff each week in order to protect our facility as much as possible.
However, due to the negative results of our residents and staff, we are once again going back to the following visitation policy:
Vaccinated Residents

Visits for vaccinated residents no longer need to be scheduled.

Enter the front main entrance. Complete the screening questionnaire, take your temperature and perform hand hygiene with hand sanitizer provided. This must be done each and every visit. If you have a fever or any signs of COVID-19, please stay home.

You must wear a mask over your mouth and nose the entire visit.

Visits can occur between the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Please avoid visiting during meal times. If you would like to assist your loved one with their meal, you can request their tray be sent outside to the gazebo.

Please continue to limit the number of visitors to 2 in case of inclement weather.

All visitors must stop at the nurse’s station to sign out the resident for the visit and then sign them back in when the resident returns to their room.

Visitors should go directly to the resident's room and take them outside for the visit. No visits can occur in the resident room as we have some unvaccinated residents. Please do not stop in the hallways or other resident rooms to socialize. We must maintain social distancing with our other residents.

09/09/2021 - Residents Test 100% Negative for Two Weeks
We are happy to report our residents have completed their second week of testing since the last employee positive result and all residents have tested negative again this week. All employees tested so far this week have also had negative results.
We will keep you updated as we complete all employee testing and monitor the McKean County Positivity Rate for the week.

08/31/2021 - New Visitation Policy Beginning September 1st
As all residents have continued to test negative this past week, we are implementing a new visitation policy which will begin this Wednesday, September 1st. Outdoor visits will be available for vaccinated residents. In the case of inclement weather, indoor accommodations will be made. All visits with unvaccinated residents must continue to take place indoors in a designated area.

All visits must be scheduled a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Visits will be scheduled out one week at a time.

To schedule a visit, please call 814-688-0659. This phone will be monitored every day from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Voicemails can be left outside of these hours and the Activities staff will return calls the following day.

All visitors are required to follow the check in procedure identified in the lobby.

All visits will be limited to 2 visitors at a time.

08/24/2021 - Second Vaccinated Employee Tests Positive
An employee has tested positive during this week’s COVID-19 testing. Both employees who have recently tested positive are fully vaccinated. All residents and staff will continue to be tested for the next two weeks or until results are 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. The positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and as always, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
Due to this week’s positive result and the McKean County Positivity Rate currently being above 10%, visits will continue to be on hold for Lutheran Home residents. Those wishing to visit an RCC resident should call 814-837-8770 ahead of time to check the status of visits.
08/20/2021 - Residents and Staff Test Negative
Due to an LHK employee testing positive for COVID-19 last week, all residents and all staff are continuing to be tested weekly. This weekly testing will continue through next week as well. All results for our residents and additional staff this week have been negative.
The McKean County Positivity Rate continues to increase and is currently at 11.3%. We will continue to monitor this as well as the CDC guidelines.
At this time, all visits must remained paused.

08/12/2021 - Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19
As of today, Thursday, August 12th, one employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Due to this positive result, all residents and all staff will be tested weekly for the next two weeks or until results are 100% negative for two consecutive weeks. The positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and as always, we will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
All visits must be paused at this time.

08/06/2021 - County Positivity Rate Decreases to 2.1%
The McKean County Positivity rate has dropped back down to 2.1%. However, the state positivity rate is currently at 5.4%. We continue to expect fluctuations due to recent trends. At this time, we will continue to test weekly. As always, any symptomatic residents or staff will be tested as necessary.
07/30/2021 - McKean County Positivity Rate Increases Again
The Lutheran Home at Kane has continued to remain COVID-19 free again this week. However, the McKean County positivity rate has increased to above 11%. Due to this, COVID testing will be completed twice a week for unvaccinated staff. Anyone showing any signs or symptoms will be tested immediately.

07/22/2021 - County Positivity Rate Increases to 6.6%
The McKean County Positivity Rate increased to 6.6% last week. The only change required at this time is for COVID-19 testing to be completed weekly instead of monthly until further notice.
With the new visitation policy in place, it has been wonderful seeing visitors in the building again this past week! We have missed you all!

07/15/2021 - Visitation Policy Changes
We continue to have zero COVID cases in our facility and we are working very diligently to remain COVID free. More than 85% of our residents and 75% of our employees are vaccinated. The county positivity rate remains below 5%. We are gradually working towards a full reopening. Below are changes to our visitation policy.
Visits for Vaccinated Residents:
Visits for vaccinated residents no longer need to be scheduled. We ask you to follow these steps:
1. Enter the front main entrance. Complete the screening questionnaire, take your temperature and perform hand hygiene with hand sanitizer. This must be done each and every visit. If you have a fever or any signs of COVID-19, please stay home. Please do not risk bringing it into our facility.
2. You must wear a mask over your mouth and nose the entire time you are in the building.
3. Go directly to the resident’s room and take them outside for the visit. No visits can occur in the resident room as we have some unvaccinated residents. Please do not stop in the hallways or other resident rooms to socialize. We must maintain social distancing with our other residents.
4. Visits can occur between the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Please avoid visiting during meal times (Lunch 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. and Dinner 5:00 - 6:15 p.m.). If you would like to assist your loved one with their meal, you can request their tray be sent outside to the gazebo.
5. Please continue to limit the number of visitors to 2 in case of inclement weather.
6. Vaccinated residents are permitted to attend social functions and events in the community. You will need to make transportation arrangements as LHK cannot provide transportation. Please schedule all planned outings with the Activities Department at least 3 days in advance. Residents are permitted up to a 4 hour leave from the facility.
Visits for Unvaccinated Residents:
If your loved one is not vaccinated, you must call to schedule a visit. Regulations continue to be strict for unvaccinated residents including social distancing and masking. Visitors must remain 6 feet from the resident at all times and wear a mask the entire visit. Visits for unvaccinated residents will continue to be held indoors and monitored. Please call the Activities Department at 814-975-1251 to schedule your visit. Please call at least 24-hours prior to the date/time you would like to visit. When you arrive for your visit, please call the nurse’s station from the main lobby and we will bring your loved one to the designated visitation area for your scheduled visit.

07/09/2021 - McKean County Positivity Rate Remains Below 5%
The McKean County COVID-19 Positivity Rate continues to remain below 5% again this week and we are happy to report we have now transitioned into monthly testing.
Our administrative staff continues to closely monitor all CDC guidelines for changes and will continue to keep you updated.
07/01/2021 - LHK Begins Monthly Testing
All COVID testing completed this week has once again returned all negative results. As the McKean County Positivity Rate has remained below 5%, LHK will now move to monthly COVID testing.
Residents and their families and friends have been enjoying visits outdoors with the beautiful weather this week. It has been wonderful seeing everyone again!
06/25/2021 - Visitation Guidelines Continue
Weekly COVID testing has continued this week with negative results for everyone tested. The McKean County Positivity Rate has continued to decrease and remains below 5%.
Please remember, if you are coming to the facility to visit one of our residents, you must call at least one hour in advance to be sure your loved one will be available for your visit. In addition, visitors are limited to two visitors at a time and masks must be worn at all times.

06/18/2021 - LHK Remains COVID Free
We are happy to announce all COVID testing completed this week has once again returned negative results. Our residents are continuing to enjoy activities with their fellow residents as well as visits with their loved ones. As weather permits, outdoor visits are encouraged for vaccinated residents. However, indoor visits are made to accommodate visits when the weather does not cooperate. If you are planning to visit, please be sure to call the facility at least one hour in advance to be sure your loved one will be available for your visit.

06/11/2021 - County Positivity Rate Drops to 5.4%
The McKean County Positivity Rate has dropped to 5.4% this week. Our number one concern is for the safety and welfare of our residents and staff and we remain diligent in following all CDC guidelines. We have been blessed again this week with negative results for all COVID-19 testing. Our staff are continuing to go above and beyond to keep your loved ones safe.

06/03/2021 - McKean County Positivity Rate Falls Below 10%
The McKean County Positivity Rate is currently at 8.7%. This still remains high compared to the state average of 3.8%. As the county falls below 10%, employees will be required to test two more weeks at two times a week. If all results remain negative, employees will be tested once a week until the county rate falls below 5%. All employees tested so far this week have been negative.

05/27/2021 - LHK Remains COVID Free
Although the McKean County Positivity Rate has remained above 11%, we have been blessed to have all negative testing results again this week. Staff will continue to be tested twice per week until the county rate goes below 10%.
Residents and staff are enjoying some extra Nursing Home Week activities such as a balloon launch, and parking lot parties which were previously rescheduled!

05/21/2021 - Negative Results Continue
Employees continue to be tested twice a week due to the McKean County Positivity Rate remaining above 10%. All testing completed this week has once again returned negative results.
Small group activities and communal dining has resumed and the beautiful weather here in Kane, PA this week has allowed many of our residents the opportunity to spend time outside enjoying the sunshine.
Scheduled visits with loved ones resumed this week as well. We continue to encourage outdoor visits for
all vaccinated residents. However, all visits are limited to two visitors and everyone must wear a mask at all times. To schedule a visit with a Lutheran Home resident, please call our Activities Department at

05/13/2021 - Visitations to Begin Again
All residents were tested this morning, Thursday, May 13th, and we are happy to announce all results are negative again this week! The McKean County positivity rate last week went up to over 16% so our employees will continue to be tested twice a week at this time. All employees tested so far this week are also negative.
As long as all residents and all staff remain negative, beginning next Monday, we will be able to begin small group activities and communal dining again.
In addition, beginning Monday, residents will once again be able to enjoy scheduled visits with their loved ones. We will be encouraging outdoor visits in the gazebo for all vaccinated residents. 05/06/2021 - Negative Results for All Residents and Staff
All residents completed their weekly COVID testing this morning and all results are negative. Employees continue to be tested twice a week and as of today, all employee results are also negative. Residents will be tested again next week or until all results are negative for two consecutive weeks. 04/30/2021 - Employee Tests Positive
As of today, Friday, April 30th, one employee has tested positive. Due to this positive employee result, all residents have been tested today and all resident results are negative. Residents will continue to be tested for the next two weeks or until all results are negative for two consecutive weeks. The positive result has been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines.
All resident activities and communal dining have been put on hold. Beauticians will also be unable to enter the building at this time. Indoor visits have been put on hold but we encourage window visits with your loved ones.

04/29/2021 - County Positivity Rate Remains Above 10%
The McKean County Positivity Rate has decreased but still remains above 10%. Our staff will continue to be tested twice a week. All testing completed so far this week has been negative. Our administrative staff continues to monitor all CDC guidelines as they continue to change.
Our residents are continuing to enjoy indoor visits with their loved ones. We are all anxiously awaiting nicer weather here at LHK so our residents can once again enjoy some time outdoors.
04/22/2021 - McKean County Positivity Rate Increases to 12.1%
As of the end of last week, the McKean County Positivity Rate has once again increased and is now at 12.1%. Due to this, staff are now required to test twice a week. All staff tested so far this week have had negative results.
We are continuing to be very diligent in following all CDC guidelines in order to keep our residents safe. In addition, St. Marys Pharmacy continues to come to our facility once a month to provide vaccinations to those residents and employees wanting to be vaccinated.
04/15/2021 - Weekly COVID Testing of Staff Continues
The McKean County Positivity Rate remains above 9% so all employees will continue to be tested weekly. If the county positivity rate increases to above 10%, all staff will be required to test twice a week.

04/08/2021 - McKean County Positivity Rate Continues to Increase
The McKean County Positivity Rate has continued to increase. As of the end of last week, the positivity rate was up to nearly 10%. We are continuing to closely monitor the county positivity rate as well as all CDC guidelines as they continue to change.
At this time, all employees are continuing to test weekly. However, if the county positivity rate goes above 10%, all staff will be required to test twice a week.
In addition to residents continuing to enjoy scheduled indoor visits with their loved ones, our residents are also enjoying spending time outside with staff as weather permits. Residents and staff can be seen walking along the outside of the building or just sitting enjoying the sunshine. We are looking forward to the outdoor activities we have planned in the upcoming months!
03/31/2021 - Weekly Testing Continues
As the McKean County Positivity Rate rose to 6.4% this week, our employees continue to be required to test on a weekly basis. Those employees who have been tested so far this week have all tested negative.
Family and friends of our residents continue to enjoy in person visits. To accommodate as many visits with loved ones as possible, a second visiting station has been opened at the Residential Care Center. Please call our Activities Department at 814-975-1251 to schedule a visit.

03/18/2021 - COVID Free
The Lutheran Home at Kane has continued to remain COVID-19 free this week. As the McKean County positivity rate remains below 5%, we will continue to test residents and staff once per month. However, anyone showing any signs or symptoms will be tested immediately.

03/09/2021 - Now Scheduling Indoor Visits
We are happy to announce with the McKean County positivity rate falling below 5%, moving forward we will need to test our residents and staff only once per month. However, we will continue to test if someone shows signs or symptoms.

Our beauticians are also coming back into the facility this week!
95% of our residents and 70% of our employees have now received both doses of the vaccine.

03/04/2021 - Negative COVID-19 Results
COVID-19 testing for this week has been completed on all residents and all results are negative. We only have a couple of staff who have not yet completed this week’s testing but all those tested so far have also tested negative.
We continue to closely monitor the positivity rate for McKean County and will update everyone soon on the status of visitations.
02/24/2021 - Residents and Staff Test Negative
Our weekly COVID-19 testing has been completed as of this morning, Wednesday, February 24th, and results for all residents and all staff are negative again this week.
The McKean County positivity rate increased a little this week and is currently over 8% so we will continue to test residents and staff weekly. In conjunction with guidelines, we will continue to monitor the county rate as this rate and our testing results will determine when we will be able to allow visitors.
02/18/2021 - Negative Results Reported
As of this morning, Thursday, February 18th, results for all residents and all staff tested so far this week are negative. The positivity rate of McKean County is below 10% so we will continue to test everyone once per week.
Residents are enjoying being able to participate in communal dining and group activities again. We will continue to keep you updated each week.
02/11/2021 - 100% Negative for Two Consecutive Weeks
Due to the positivity rate of McKean County dropping to 10%, testing of residents and staff is only required once per week. The Lutheran Home at Kane has completed COVID-19 testing for this week and all residents and all staff have tested negative.
We have now had two consecutive weeks of 100% negative results so effective immediately, residents are once again able to participate in communal dining and group activities with social distancing precautions in place.
02/05/2021 - Negative COVID-19 Results
The Lutheran Home at Kane has completed COVID-19 testing for this week and as of Friday, February 5th, results for all residents are negative. All employees tested so far are also negative but we still have a few we are waiting to complete.

The positivity rate for McKean County has dropped so residents and staff will now both tested weekly for at least the next week or until we receive 100% negative results for two consecutive weeks.

As of Wednesday, December 9th, fourteen additional residents and five additional employees have tested positive for COVID-19. 12/07/2020 - Three Employees Test Positive
Due to three additional nursing employees showing symptoms of COVID-19, rapid tests were performed on these three employees and all three have tested positive for COVID-19. These positive results have been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines.

12/03/2020 - One Resident and Three Employees Test Positive
As of Thursday, December 3rd, one additional resident and three additional employees have tested positive for COVID-19. The positive resident has been moved to a Red Zone and their responsible party has been notified. The positive results have been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines.
At this time, we have received approximately 50% of the results back from the lab from this week’s testing. As further results are received, we will continue to keep you updated.
Our next round of testing of all residents and staff is scheduled for Monday, December 7th.
12/01/2020 - Two Residents Test Positive
Two additional residents have tested positive for COVID-19. These residents were running a low grade fever so a rapid test was performed and their results were positive. Rapid tests will be performed on any resident showing signs or symptoms of COVID. Responsible parties for these residents testing positive have already been notified and the residents have been moved to a Red Zone. The positive results have been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines. We are working very hard to prevent it from spreading in the building.
Testing of all residents and staff was completed Monday and Tuesday of this week and we will provide an update when the results are received from the lab.
11/27/2020 - Seven Residents and Two Employees Test Positive
The Lutheran Home at Kane has received results back from the November 20th round of COVID testing and seven residents and two nursing employees have tested positive. Responsible parties for those residents testing positive have already been notified and the residents are in a Red Zone. The positive results have been reported to the Department of Health and we are continuing to follow CDC guidelines.
Residents and staff will continue to be tested weekly until we receive 100% negative results for two consecutive weeks. Our next round of testing is scheduled for next Monday, November 30th.
11/23/2020 - Employee Tests Positive
As of November 23rd, 2020, The Lutheran Home has finally received all test results from last week’s testing and one nursing employee has tested positive. The positive employee’s test result has been reported to the Department of Health. The positive employee is not working at this time, but was in the facility performing nursing duties on their last day of work which was Friday, November 20th, 2020. We are continuing to follow CDC guidelines and we are taking every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building.
At this time, we must discontinue communal dining and group activities. We are continuing to ensure staff are wearing the proper protective equipment, and we continue to limit the amount of caregivers who enter the wings. Window visits will continue to be the only means of visitation but windows must be kept closed at all times.
Testing of all residents and all staff began immediately. Residents and staff will be tested weekly until we receive 100% negative results for two consecutive weeks.
11/18/2020 - McKean County Positivity Rate Rises over 5%
As of November 18th, 2020, The Lutheran Home has had no additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, and no individuals are exhibiting new respiratory symptoms. We continue to follow CDC and Department of Health guidelines. Therefore, due of the positivity rate of McKean County recently going above 5%, we are now required to test all employees on a weekly basis. This will continue until the McKean County positivity rate falls back below 5%. Employee testing began on Tuesday, November 17th and we will be updating you soon with the results.

11/11/2020 - Residents & Staff Test Negative for 2 Consecutive Weeks
The lab the Lutheran Home utilizes for its COVID-19 testing has been inundated with an abundance of COVID testing so it is taking a bit longer for results to come back. However, we are happy to report as of late last night, we have finally received all results from last week’s COVID testing and all residents and all employees have tested negative for the second week in a row! We continue to follow CDC and Department of Health guidelines. Moving forward, testing will take place every 4 weeks for employees only unless circumstances change requiring residents and employees to both be tested. The next round of testing for employees has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th.
Effective immediately, residents will be able to once again participate in communal dining and group activities with social distancing precautions in place. We will keep you updated on the status of indoor visits.

10/25/2020 - One Resident Tests Positive
The Lutheran Home at Kane received notification on Sunday, October 25th, 2020 of a resident testing positive in the latest round of testing. This resident is showing mild symptoms. We continue to follow CDC guidelines and are taking every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building. The resident has been moved to the Red Zone area where they will be quarantined for 14 days. This resident’s results have been reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
At this time, window visits remain the only means of visitation but windows must be kept closed at all times.
Residents and staff will continue to be tested weekly for at least the next two weeks or until we receive 100% negative results for two consecutive weeks.

The Lutheran Home at Kane was notified Thursday, October 22nd of an employee who has tested positive for COVID-19. The positive employee’s test result has been reported to the Department of Health.
The positive employee is not working at this time but was in the facility performing administrative duties on their last day of work which was Wednesday, October 21st, 2020. We are continuing to follow CDC guidelines and we are taking every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building.
At this time, we must discontinue communal dining and group activities. The COVID-19 prevention guidelines for The Lutheran Home at Kane residents remain very strict including social isolation. We are continuing to ensure staff are wearing the proper protective equipment and limiting the amount of caregivers who enter the wings.
Indoor visits must be paused at this time so window visits will be the only means of visitation but windows must be kept closed at all times.

10/05/2020 - Testing Results Received - 100% Negative for 2 Weeks
The Lutheran Home at Kane has received all results from last week’s COVID testing and all employees and residents have tested negative for the second week in a row! We will continue to follow CDC and Department of Health guidelines. Moving forward, testing will take place every four weeks for employees unless circumstances change requiring residents and employees to both be tested.
We are happy to announce we are now allowing indoor visits with social distancing and masking requirements. These visits will be limited to two visitors at a time. Visitors must wear a mask the entire visit. Visits will be limited to 30 minutes to allow enough time for all residents to spend time with their families. 09/19/2020 - Positive Employee & First Positive Resident
On Saturday, September 19, 2020, The Lutheran Home at Kane was notified of an employee and a resident testing COVID-19 positive in their latest round of weekly testing. This is the first resident to test positive at The Lutheran Home since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Positive results for both the employee and the resident have been reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The Lutheran Home immediately implemented its COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness Plan moving the positive resident to the “Red Zone”. The Red Zone is a designated area for any positive or potentially positive COVID-19 resident. The resident is currently exhibiting no signs or symptoms. The positive employee is a nursing employee and will be off work for fourteen days to quarantine. This employee is also exhibiting no signs or symptoms.
The Lutheran Home will continue to follow CDC guidelines and take every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building. Window visits remain the only means of visitation but windows must be kept closed at all times. Residents and staff will be tested weekly for at least the next two weeks or until 100% negative results are received for two consecutive weeks.
Staff at The Lutheran Home have successfully kept COVID-19 out of the facility for over seven months and are dedicated to continue working to keep the residents safe.
09/14/2020 - Round 2 Testing Results in 1 Positive Employee
Due to the positive employee case reported September 2, 2020, two weekly rounds of COVID testing were required. Round 1 resulted in 100% negative resident and employee results. However, the second round of testing completed on September 9th and 10th resulted in one administrative employee testing positive.
The positive employee is not working at this time, but was in the facility performing administrative duties on their last day of work which was Friday, September 11, 2020. We are continuing to follow CDC guidelines and we are taking every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building.
Window visits remain the only means of visitation but windows must be kept closed at all times.

09/08/2020 - Testing Results of Round 1 Testing - 100% Negative
Due to the positive employee case reported September 2, 2020, testing on all residents and staff was completed by end the week and sent to the lab for processing.
All results have now been received and we are happy to report results are negative for all residents and all staff. A second round of testing is required for all residents and staff this week and will take place this Wednesday and Thursday (September 9th and 10th).
Our staff is committed to keeping our residents safe! We will remain vigilant with keeping COVID-19 out of our building!
09/03/2020 - Lutheran Home Reports First Employee Positive
The Lutheran Home at Kane is making the community aware of its first employee positive case of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Administration was informed the morning of Wednesday, September 2nd of an employee who has tested positive for the virus and actions plans were put into place immediately. The test results have been reported to the Department of Health.
The positive employee is not working at this time but was in the facility performing nursing duties on their last day of work which was August 25th, 2020. “We continue to follow CDC guidelines and we are taking every precaution to ensure the virus does not spread in the building”, said Charlotte Floravit, Nursing Home Administrator.
The COVID-19 prevention guidelines for The Lutheran Home at Kane residents remain very strict. Group activities and communal dining have once again been postponed. Those who enter the wings continue to be limited to essential staff wearing the additional proper personal protective equipment including N95 masks, face shields, gloves and gowns. We continue to follow transmission based precautions with laundry services and housekeeping. High touch areas are cleaned frequently including surfaces such as doorknobs, switches, remotes, tables, sinks, and toilets. We have enhanced infection control precautions in place. All residents and staff are screened twice daily for signs, symptoms and temperature. Residents and staff will be tested weekly moving forward. The first round of testing began the afternoon of Wednesday, September 2nd and will be completed by the end of the week.
With a positive case of the virus, the Lutheran Home goes back to stage one which includes no visitation. At this time we cannot allow outdoor or Speak Easy visits. Window visits will be the only means of visitation but windows are required to be closed at all times and visitors MUST wear a mask.

08/27/2020 - Outdoor Visits Now Available!
The Lutheran Home is happy to announce we are now allowing outdoor visits! An area has been designated outside the old main entrance for these visits to take place. The number of visitors is limited to two and a mask MUST be worn for the entire visit. Visitors will be seated six feet from the resident to maintain social distancing. Please call the Activities Department at 814-975-1251 to schedule an outdoor visit. We ask you call twenty-four hours prior to the date and time you would like to visit. All visitors must comply to our rules of masks and no contact with the resident. We look forward to seeing everyone!
08/12/2020 - Limited Communal Dining for Residents
The Lutheran Home is proud to announce that for the first time in months, residents are now able to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in the dining room! Dining will be limited to one wing per meal and all social distancing guidelines will be followed at all times.
07/02/2020 - Universal Testing Results
Universal COVID-19 testing was completed on all residents and all employees on June 30th and July 1st resulting in 100% negative for COVID-19. The Lutheran Home will continue to be diligent with screening, following guidelines and maintaining a safe environment for our residents and employees.
05/19/2020 - Speak Easy Visits Now Available
The Lutheran Home is proud to announce we are now offering visits with our new "Speak Easy"! The Speak Easy was built for family and friends to visit with their loved ones here at The Lutheran Home. The Speak Easy was built with plexiglass which makes it much easier to hear and see each other while keeping everyone safe during this challenging time. The Speak Easy was made possible by the monetary donation for materials from Kane VFW Post 1132 as well as volunteer builders Jeff and Austin Swanson and the LHK Maintenance crew for their time designing and building the Speak Easy. To make an appointment to see your loved one using the Speak Easy, please call the Activities Department Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm at 814-975-1252!!
05/07/2020 - No Changes for LHK as PA enters Yellow Phase
Per Governor Wolf, the state of Pennsylvania will soon be entering the “Yellow Phase” of opening businesses back up due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, this does not pertain to nursing homes. The Lutheran Home at Kane will continue to remain closed to all visitors. We will continue to follow the protocols and safeguards we have in place to maintain the safety and welfare of our residents and staff. 03/11/2020 - Visitors Restricted due to COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Lutheran Home will be restricting all visitors until further notice. Our number one priority is to protect our residents and staff. We feel at this time it is important to limit those coming in or out of our building to essential staff only. We have put into place several protocols and safeguards to maintain the safety and welfare of our residents and staff. We appreciate your continued support during this difficult time.
