Residents have a right to participate in social, religious, and community activities that do not interfere with the rights of other residents in the facility. The program is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
Provisions are made for a variety of resident activities under the direction and supervision of a trained, qualified staff member.
These activities shall include religious, diversional, intellectual/education activities designed to give residents entertainment, inter-communication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and fulfill basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
One-on-one programming refer to programming provided to residents who will not, or cannot, effectively plan their own activity pursuits, or residents needing specialized or extended programs to enhance their overall daily routine and activity pursuit needs.
Person Appropriate refers to the idea that each resident has a personal identify and history. Activities should be relevant to the specific needs, interests, culture, background, etc. of the individual for whom they are developed.
Program of Activities includes a combination of large and small groups, one-on-one and self-directed activities.
The Activities Manager is responsible for directing the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program. This includes the completion and/or directing/delegating and completion of the activities component of the assessment; and contributing to the care plan goals and approaches.
The information gathered through the assessment should be used to develop the activities component of the comprehensive care plan.
Staff assist the residents with projects carried out in their rooms as part of their care and give encouragement.
A list of activities and a calendar of events is available in a variety of areas. Residents are encouraged to suggest ideas, allow for multiple activities at one time to prompt choice. There shall be adequate supplies available, and the utilization of volunteers from the community is highly encouraged.
Employees encourage residents to participate and assist residents in selecting activities commensurate with the interests and physical capacity, in compliance with physician's orders and restrictions. The Activities Manager plans these activities far enough in advance so that they can be included in the resident's daily care plan by nursing personnel. Activities Manager is responsible for arranging transportation and qualified supervision of residents for either outside or in-house activities.
The Staff must be able to locate residents from his/her unit at all times. Residents leaving the building must notify the Staff.
