The nursing facility has a very special unit for those afflicted with Alzheimer/Dementia called the Horizon Unit. This unit has a very unique setup and specialized delayed egress locking. It provides the safest environment for the residents while giving them a very home-like atmosphere. With a large activity/dining room, the residents can socialize with one another while participating in the daily activities and routines they are accustomed to. The atmosphere in the Horizon Unit focuses on their personal interests and gives them a family oriented surrounding which keeps their attention focused while providing a comfortable setting.

The staff as well as the daily schedules in the Horizon  are kept as consistent as possible as to not upset the routine the residents are accustomed to. The residents are able to enjoy many of the nursing facilities activities while having their own separate activities as well.

What makes the Horizon Unit special?

Inter-generational activities with the K.I.D.S. Daycare.
Special services by Chaplain Pflieger, geared to the Alzheimer residents.
Staffing is above requirements.
Activities geared to residents with dementia to maintain their abilities as long as possible.
The special safety provisions which make it possible to have a working kitchen available for the residents to participate in familiar cooking projects, do dishes etc.
The common-areas that lend a sense of community to the unit.
The large windows that allow the residents to safely enjoy the beauty of nature.
Availability of materials that allow the residents to perform routine daily tasks, as they are able, such as setting tables, folding clothes etc.
